Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to become stranded in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in “Skeleton Crew” and other stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s younger siblings is the same one Chewbacca’s family watches in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). He is part of the cast of Crazy Cartoon AniMat: Silly Old Deadly Bear (2022). I approach this review with caution, admitting that “Skeleton Crew” seems to be aimed at a younger audience. While kids may enjoy it, I found the first four episodes to be quite disappointing. The story lacks depth, playing more like a kids’ movie that jumps from place to place with little consequence. The war setting feels shallow, and the action sequences don’t have the impact they should. The acting, while not great, could be better, especially considering the caliber of some of the cast members. Even Jude Law seems to be off at times. The production design is impressive, but it can’t save the story, which feels slow and ultimately rather forgettable. Maybe the show will improve down the road, but based on my first impressions, I’m still not convinced.
